I don’t have a car.

I’m in my early twenties. It seems that lately all my friends and their mother are buying cars. I don’t care. Some ask me: Valentin, why don’t you have a car? Don’t get me wrong, owning your own vehicle is great, but my car can only take me so far. When I can wake up in foreign countries and still afford to have a car at “home” just because I can, perhaps I will. In the meantime, I will use car sharing, take the bus and walk in Vancouver, so that I can take the bus and walk in Manila, or Tashkent, or Melbourne, wherever I end up next.

I’ve been to more countries than I can count from memory alone, but I am far from a seasoned traveller. There is much left to be seen. I have some way to go before my early twenties are over, and all the old & important adults in my life who keep telling me that I should be saving for my mortgage downpayment have been emphatically and nostalgically preaching, with some contradiction: Travel! Do it while you’re young and you have no commitments! I heeded their advice. In the summer of 2015 my girlfriend and I travelled all across Europe and Russia for four months. We then parted ways and I travelled to Central Asia while she went to the UK before returning home to Vancouver. We spent the first half of 2017 travelling Southeast Asia and China. I am currently building a location independent career and I’m slowly getting rid of possessions instead of buying more. This is why having a car is not conducive to the lifestyle I want to build.

This blog is a bit different in that I don’t just write. You will see musical interpretations of the places we go to. You will see video blogs. You will see many photos and video guides to places we’ve been. I will take you along on our adventures past, current and present.
